ARU urges for safe and dignified repatriation at the OIC Conference in Dhaka

Director General of Arakan Rohingya Union, Dr. Wakar Uddin, spoke at the the 45th OIC Council of Foreign Ministers Conference held on May 6 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Dr. Wakar Uddin stressed that the repatriation of Rohingya from Camps in Bangladesh to their original villages in their homeland of Arakan state must be expedited and should be done without interruption or any delay. More importantly, Dr. Uddin stressed the paramount importance of providing conducive conditions by Burma Govt for the returnees, particularly the safety, security, settlement, and the habitability in their totally obliterated Rohingya villages.

“Burma government’s agreement with Government of Bangladesh must include involvement of UNHCR and other international agencies; that’s critical because there must be homes rebuilt for Rohingya in their original villages well ahead of the repatriation process” Dr. Uddin said.
