Monsoonal landslide in refugee camps leaves six Rohingya wounded

Six Rohingya children are fatally wounded by landslides at Balukhali camps of Ukhiya, Cox’sBazar. This incident takes place at around 8.30 am on Saturday, 19th May.

The injured children were three daughters -Rokeya Bibi (11), Khaleda Bibi (9) and Sadia Bibi (7) of Sayed Alam living in Balukhali 1, Block 27 and nearby Block 63’s Md. Musa Khalil’s three daughters Jannat Ara (12), Rokeya Begum (10) and Showkot Ara Begum (6). The local people rushed them to Medicine Sans Frontiers’ hospital.

The doctors informed that the children are nit completely out of danger. The Officer in charge of Ukhiya police station confessed the authenticity of the event.

Rohingya Refugees are facing the danger predicted by Govt authorities and aid agencies if there are heavy rains this year.

“There are no more trees, no more roots, so there could be massive landslides”, said UNICEF spokesman Benjamin Steinlechner.

Most importantly, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society estimates that at least 100,000 refugees will be victims to extreme dangers during the monsoon.
